MD Dept of Agriculture Open House - March 25, 2006

The MDA hosts an open house every year at it's offices in Annapolis. This free event typically draws a crowd of 2,500 people and offers visitors an opportunity to milk a cow, see the department’s insect collection, make slime in the State Chemist’s laboratory, enjoy a Maryland food and craft market, demonstrate their hog calling skills, take in a petting farm, ride a pony, and learn about the world of agriculture today through hands-on activities. This is the first year that an animal rescue group was invited to be part of the activity, and MAGDRL was lucky enough to be that rescue group.

We made quite a few contacts through the day who were interested in volunteering, fostering and adoption. Hopefully we will be hearing from some of these people in the near future. Also, thanks to our Thankful Paws donation coats we brought in $123.39 in donations. The children loved to be able to stuff $1 bills in the coats.

I would like to say a big thank you to our volunteers that made this event possible:

Lois Steinfort and Lisa Lightner, who were wonderful spare hands to help with the dogs and speak to all our visitors.

Angel & Scott
Angel
Scott Gunn and Angel, who charmed everyone with her sweet and gentle nature.

Napoleon

Joan Schramm and Napoleon, who was busy teaching people that a gentle leader is not a muzzle.

Falkor
